Let's make a statement. Black and Family-Owned, AfroPick is a cultural brand whose mission is to encourage self-identity, individuality, and love of one's story through the marriage of culture and art. The designs will not fade with use, making the picks ideal for wearing in your fro to go! Behind each of our picks is a story. Designed by our team of independent artists, our AfroPicks aim to illuminate stories with which we can resonate. From our beginnings, to today, and through every journey we've been through along the way. AfroPick is FOR US, BY US. Co-Founder & CEO Co-Founder & CFO Co-Founder & COO Cultural, Unique, Symbolic This idea was developed during a phone call during the Summer of 2020. During that summer, there was a lot of tension and conflict in the world, between coronavirus keeping us all inside and intense social movements overtaking the media. Personally, we all felt the pain and resolve of our community to create change, and we couldn’t help but wonder how we could work to bring more positivity into that state of affairs. We wanted to do something to lift not only our own spirits, but the spirits of anyone feeling the effects of that time. Then one day during a phone call between the 3 of us, we had this random thought: “why are AfroPicks the same everywhere?” This question spurred a conversation about why such an important symbol and cultural tool for our community had NEVER been given new life and re-established meaning. By the end of that call, we had the initial structure and plan for what is today AfroPick! We create salon grade, one-of-a-kind afropick combs made for styling, accessorizing, and maintaining curly and afro textured hair. The perfect marriage between culture and art, our picks are bringing a fresh perspective to a tool that has never been reimagined in such a way. We are able to connect with a community while building a brand that will become the one-stop-shop for all things afro textured hair. The entire journey! We really have been able to trust each other in this process of building a business and we feel proud to be able to do this as a family. The engagement we’ve seen from our community, the reviews, the connection with so many unique stories about what our AfroPicks mean to people of all ages - it’s all been extremely humbling. This year (2022), we were included in the NAACP Image Awards giftbox to those nominated for awards, and last year we were included in the “Coming 2 America” Celebrity Giftbox (which Ms. Tina Knowles shared on her Instagram page tagging us in!). We’ve been featured in Essence, Glamour Magazine, and Buzzfeed. Further, we feel mindblown to have received shoutouts from people such as Amber Rose (who used the pick for her kid’s hair) and Kristen Bell (who chose our brand to give a shoutout as part of the Amazon Small Business Initiative). We even got to have a video call and chat with Raven Symoné to discuss the business, and she LOVED our picks! The entire journey thus far has been a fun and rewarding one, and we only plan to continue our growth from here.
